CrapHouse Central: The College Football Files #3 – The Kenny Chesney song can already stop please and other observations about College Football’s opening salvo…

The 2009/2010 college football season came in like a lamb, like a three-legged, lock-jawed lamb with a monkey head. Let me be clear. It was two days of horrible football, and I could not be more happy to have it. Even though the offenses were stale. Even though the bumper videos have hit an all time low. Even though Texas is ranked #2, the last two days have been like Christmas for me, only better. I get stuff. I get hours of college football.

The Thursday/Friday night line up included:

South Carolina 7 Vs. North Carolina State 3 - I will be stunned if Steve Spurrier makes it through the season without causing harm to himself or others.

North Texas 20 Vs. Ball State 10 - If this game happened four months from now it would go by the name “The Chrysler Who Gives a Sh** Bowl.”

Iowa State 34 Vs. North Dakota State 17 - There is a University in North Dakota?

Bowling Green 31 Vs. Troy 14 - Getting spanked by Bowling Green has to be a lot like losing a fight with the color green.

Utah 35 Vs. Utah State 17 - An in-state rivalry with two little brothers.

Tulsa 37 Vs. Tulane 13 - I watched the whole thing... All of it... Every REM inducing second... 8 Months is a long time.

Boise State 19 Vs. Oregon 8 - 1 nasty article in SI - 5 rushing yards + 1 wild fist = - 12.5 million dollars.

Top Ten John Hughes Movies

John Hughes is one of America’s greatest directors.

He defined a generation with films that continue to resonate with people young and old.  In this fan’s humble opinion Hughes should be mentioned along side directors such as Ford, Coppola, Scorsese, Spielberg, and Kubrick.  A trailer was recently released for a documentary about his life/career which looks like it could be insightful.  He is responsible for some of my favorite films as well as my unhealthy interest in films in general.  I could go on and on about my love for the man but that could start sounding creepy and weird…

…so instead I’ll give you my TOP 10 HUGHES FILMS:

10. Dennis the Menace (writer)

9. Uncle Buck

8. Pretty in Pink (writer)

7. Weird Science

6. Home Alone (writer)

5. Sixteen Candles

4. National Lampoon’s Vacation (writer)

3. Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

2. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

1. The Breakfast Club

Rest in peace Mr. Hughes, you will be missed.
